Hanging round, down town by myself

So today i ordered some new dancewear! A black camisole leotard, a nude camisole leotard, a royal blue halter neck leotard, a black chiffon ballet skirt, a new pair of black jazz shoes, a new pair of black character shoes and some new ballet pink tights! Of course i'm in the process of repaying my grandmother for offering to buy all of this for my intensive dance camp in late june at the university of georgia, in exchange for tyhree mornings of physical labor. I worked most of it off today cleaning out all the bottem and top cabnets and drawers in her kitchen, vaccuming them out, washing them and sorting out all of her junk in give away piles and putting all the keeps back in the cabnets/drawers in an organized fashion.

Other than taking care of that business today, i finished my studdy index cards for polyatomic ions!
I also started on some projects for my friend kirby, some going away projects, since she's leaving next year. Then i went on to some 30 minute cardio and conditioning-its part of dance summer work yo. And that makes me really happy and almost extatic that mattmann(my dance teacher) gives summer work for dancers!
Now i just washed my hair for the first time since i cut it and in the shower and while its wet it's awesome to play with. Like super fun..yesterday i had it tied up in a head scarf.
 Look at that laughable G!
There will most likely be a new outfit post tomorrow.
Love, Layla

love and war.

When i started dating cody, he introduced a great band to me that is now starting to grow on me, Warpaint. It's an all girl, experimental art-rock band from Los Angeles. The members are Emily Kokal (guitar), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass), Stella Mozgawa (drums, keyboards), Theresa Wayman (guitar) and they all sing. which is one of the things i love most about their sound!
It's really beautiful and whimsical. This is what plays in my head when i think of nature wiccans. Above is "set your arms down," from their The Fool. Also, the song i first heard when i was introduced to them.

South pacific dreams

Aloha, yesterday i took my sweetums cody and my little sister reyce on an outing. On this outing we had a picnic styled tea party.
Since i don't have a source of income i cooked everything and announced it my date to cody. I cooked snicker doodles, scones and strawberry english tea. Along with that we had some fruit,  veggies, and raspberry treats.

A close up of the strawberry tea.

And sip
I have a harajuku-ish look to my face here, and both of our eyes are huge looking.
wah-hah-hohh!
All of these tea party shinanagans are mixed in with south pacific vibes..
I was watching it today and even though i've seen it many more times than once it occured to me that i just really like this musical. Not particularly love but i do like it.

Basically, Nellie, who while stationed overseas during World War II falls in love with wealthy Emile.
Then as the war gets closer and everyones having a swell comedic-musical time the relationship becomes alot more serious than they planned.

This is bloody mary's-the island philosopher-daughter, Ngana.
This is the broadway production, emile is singing "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair."
It's pictures like these that make me proud and confident with being tall and having long ass legs.

Scamper will not be my new bestfriend.

So last night i watched scamper because my dvd player broke i think..i'd forgotten how truly annoying the narrators voice was. But its appropriate for the audiences age thats supposed to watch scamper. I suppose. Scamper is the original Happy Feet or any of that shizz..

Check out those pastels!

My best-woman friend, kirby, told me yesterday that she's moving to Dublin. Which is an hour away from me. So school is going to suck for awhile next year. I guess i'll be driving to dublin alot for shows and to see her beautiful face.

Me to your left and kirby to your right.

First day of summah

Today i wore a pair of gray, pin-striped coveralls, a hamey-down from my older sister chelsey. With a thin purple cami that is also some form of hamey-down from someone. A new pin/broatch i bought at the Banana Antique in cumming georgia this weekend($2). I was like my old day care!-oh, its an antique shop now...................SUHVEET!

The pen/broatch. It's a tiny girl face.

HEY! look you guys! its me. my hair was natural and spontanious!

And lastly, but not least, my shoes. just a pair of mint green ankle socks that my granny gave to me and my old pair of velcro, one-star converse.
Gotta criss cross my straps!

Watercolors

The painter of my soul is dance, she paints in watercolors....
Woohh! I watchewd this video on Terpiscore and i was just sitting there thinking, damn, this is really hillarious and the clips are just so randomly put together-but they still have plenty of relation. I still thoroughly enjoy this clip though. Its the dance company, "Runaway."

What i feel.

You know how some teachers treat certain groups of people differently? not particularly favortism, just different treatment. One of my favorite classes this year has been honors world history, taught by my favorite acedimic teacher of the year Andy Rasch. He always talks to everyone as if they are all different to him and not identical to everything that walks through the door. Like every teacher should, he gives everyone a chance to speak even if its only every once in awhile.
But every 2 to 3 days out of a week he'll lean to the Scarlett Johanson side rather than the Winona Ryder side.
I recall keeping my hand up on and off almost the whole class period until about 15 minutes till the bell. I was trying to answer different questions and disscuss things. Even though the whole time i'd keep putting my hand up long before the "scarlett's" and he'd say, "well your(talking to a scarlett) hand was up first, so you can answer." Almost at the end of the enitre studdy session he finally begins to let me answer a question. He tells the whole class to turn to a certain page after i offered to answer it, then when everyone got to the page i told him that i had the actual answers and he was like, "yeah, you can read them." I passed him off. "I don't want to now."
The way he'll look at me compared to the scarlett's-which by now i hope you've figured out that they're classified in the stereotypical pretty girl group-he'll give me a smirk and them a laugh or a playful comment...

winona ryder from girl interrupted.

I guess when it comes down to it its the fact that Andy is attracted to a stereotypical idea of women. The idea being that women who are or act like they're full of air means that they're spineless, weak and feeble enough to dominate. Along with ignorant comments about serious topics or cardboard subjects and trendy senses of styles... for example...
Trendahhhhh!
Right theree..
I'm mostly just annoyed for the tremendous amount of tolerance he has for the scarlett's. I know what he's attracted to though. The scarlett's...even though he values peoples intelligence when they have it-he does not savor it.

Donovan

In the 2012 induction into the Rock and roll hall of fame was this week, i'm happy to say that Donovan was finally inducted!
If you don't know who Donovan is, some of his most famous works are: Atlantis, Season of the witch, Turquoise, Mellow Yellow, Universal Soldier and many more. When he entered the stage to accept his induction the crowd really did roar and i was like,"so people really do love donovan? like alott..." haha, his voice has barely changed though! when you compare Bob Dylan's voice from when he was a young man and now-in his 60's-well theres a huge difference. But perhaps Donovan was as rough with smoking as Bob. Like constant cigerettes.
Donovan was one of the originals, or so "they" say.(who the fuck is they?) He taught the beatles how to handpick those india gutairs that always sound so trippy and odd in some later works. The beatles also looked up to donovan. Well some of them.
It was a huge hit in europe++this is an idealistic song about the mythological atlantis. It's probably my favorite Donovan song, Atlantis.  Obviously not very radio friendly because he used alot of hidden symbolism  through out the song that suggest particular ideas about our society, the way it works, politcal workings and so forth. Which is alot of the reason i love it. Donovan's voice just sounds magestic itself. Then hearing him talk in person or on stage is absolutley thrilling to me.
......................................................................................
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind, Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new, Hail Atlantis!

living as an elf.

I went to this cool little place called Jordan Mill saterday. It's a large pond-creek type form of water. Cody, reyce and i were walking around and before i could tell cody was taking my picture. Its quite a beautfiul place, it reminds me of a land that elves would live on. Which is ironic because cody calls me his "little elf."
This is a little part of the creek-pond that is roped off in a little area where they used to babtize for a church of the name "white oak." I find it really cool man, i mean walking into a natural set up pool? That'd be sweet.
Not as nice of a picture, you can see cody's arm a bit, but you get the point. Its just the rest of the sectioned off part of the babtizing pool.

I thought the old porta-potty was particularly interesting....haha. Have a nice evening!

U2

I was just checking out some blogs i follow on tumblr and found this video on http://copycats.tumblr.com/.  U2's always been a good band. Obviously not my favorite but a very good band and a part of an important part of the evolvment in rock&roll music history for bands wanting to be exposed and discovered to america.
This is a cover of with or without you by: kye kye.
Honestly, i didn't realize how beautiful and how much i really do like this song until i heard this version of it. I really like her hair. haha. Her voice is like a whisper and slightly raspy, mixed with this techno-keyboard sound. Anyhow enjoy!

swim gear!

I was thinking all week about this. Contemplating the old and new...i'm caught between a new bathing suit and sticking with the old. I'm having vibes of 90's-ish Lisa Frank and 1920's pin-up.
Not the besssstt picture ever but you see it pretty well. It's called white fox but i'm thinking white cat.
from urbanoutfitters.

This is more of a simple bathing suit. But it flatters my body type and i really do love it. Its on sale at american apparel, only around 10-15 bucks i think.

This is verging over to the more 20's pin-up side. I have one thats similar but black. eh....as i said im still contemplating about getting a new one or sticking with the ones i already have in my closet.
Summer is on its way:)

luxerious reading.

So a week or two ago one of my best friends, kirby, read me a book until i fell asleep. It sounds sweet but in reality she was like "dude, get up! this junk is funny!" the book is Unlovable by: Esthen Pearl Watson. This is actually a diary that Esthen and her friend Mark Todd found in a restroom in San Francisco durining the 90's.

I hope you can tell that this is a super quirky book, it reminds me of kirby so much. Of course the entire time she was reading it in her "keff voice", from napoleon dynamite.
Heres a last snapshot!
This book is completely hillarious. It not only espresses all of the all of the real events of a girl growing up, but it has no makeup. it isn't edited, it doesn't wear makeup, i think thats  what i like about it so much. And the fact that it was read to me in a moment when i had time for it, i wasn't busy reading for school or anything.
chat it up latterr!
